Poll Results: Who Will Win The Vezina?

And your Poll winner is....Cory Schneider!

Okay I admit it. I may have been a little biased here and had a few people stuff the ballot box. But such is my belief that Cory Schneider may be having one of the best seasons of any starting goalie in the NHL. Let's take a look at the results, from the Who Will Win The Vezina poll:

1. Cory Schneider: 2.14 GAA .925 S% 5 SO. This season could not have been easy for Schneider. It's one thing to assume the starter's role for the first time in his NHL career, but to do it will the All-Star incumbent sitting on the bench is another thing entirely. Yet Schneider has kept his game steady all season, and though he's been caught by a few other goalies statistically, should still be in the Vezina discussion at the end of the year.

2. Sergi Bobrovsky: 2.04 GAA .932 S% 4 SO. There's not too much separating Schneider from Bobrovsky. Oh wait, maybe it's playing for the Colmubus Blue Jackets that makes what Goalie Bob has done so remarkable. He's nearly single-handedly taken the Jackets from bottom feeder to playoff contender after being cast off from Philadelphia in the summer. Honestly if I were a Vezina voter, my vote's going his way.

3. Craig Anderson: 1.53 GAA .949 S% 3 SO. If this vote were being held at the end of February, there is absolutely no doubt that the Vezina goes to Andy, in a landslide. Just look at those numbers! But the Hockey Gods are cruel and Anderson suffered an injury that caused him to miss nearly half the season. He may not have the win totals or games played to ultimately take the Vezina, but he surely deserves it.

4. Tuukka Rask: 1.99 GAA .929 S% 3 SO. Rask, like Schneider, has been nothing short of spectacular in his first season as a starter in Boston. The B's have been solid this year, but Rask has made them elite and could push them towards another Stanley Cup. Not only will Rask get his fair share of Vezina votes, he may get the Jennings as well with a good final 2 weeks.

5. Pekka Rinne: 2.29 GAA .916S% 5 SO. Though Rinne's numbers have been comparable to last season when he was a Vezina nominee, it may not be enough this year for him to make the final 3 again. Rinne has done his best to mitigate the loss of all-star defenceman Ryan Suter to Minnesota, but with Nashville slipping out of the playoff race and other NHL goalies moving past him, this won't be Rinne's year.

6. Other: No votes for other goalies in this poll, but there are certainly some that merit inclusion: Henrik Lundqvist could be nominated for a 4th consecutive season, Marc-Andre Fleury is leading the league in wins, and Antti Niemi is only one win behind him with very comparable numbers. Chicago's goalie tandem of Corey Crawford and Ray Emery are first in running for the Jennings, but will likely split their Vezina votes.

Thanks for reading the poll results, there will be a new poll up tomorrow morning! Make sure to come back and vote, feel free to leave a comment, and please share if you like the content here at WAAP. Here's your evening gif, Stephane Robidas riding a shark!
