Tonight's Big Match-ups 04/26

Only four games in store for us tonight around the NHL, with most teams preparing for their final game tomorrow (aside from Boston and Ottawa obviously). Let's take a look at the match-ups.

New York Islanders @ Buffalo Sabres (7:00pm ET): The Islanders are finishing up a five game road trip to end their season, in which they've gone 2-1-1. The loss came last night against the Flyers, and the Isles didn't look very good getting outshot and outworked. However a win tonight and they would temporarily move up to the #6 spot in the East. The Sabres are ending a terrible year and may be more interested in the offseason than putting in the effort tonight.
Prediction: 4-2 Isles

Edmonton @ Minnesota (8:00pm ET): The Oilers are in a similar situation as the Sabres, as they look towards next season and the potential changes that new GM Craig MacTavish will bring to the club. The offense has gone ice cold for Edmonton, only scoring two goals in their last three games which were, unsurprisingly, all losses. Minnesota's offense has been almost as bad, with only four goals in their last three, but they did put up a 5-3 win over these same Oilers last week. The Wild are fighting for their playoff lives and a win of any kind tonight would clinch them a playoff berth.
Prediction: 3-2 Oilers (SO)

Calgary Flames @ Chicago Blackhawks (8:30pm ET): Calgary has been alternating winning and losing streaks for a while now, as the team struggles to find consistency after losing multiple team leaders to either injury or trade. For the Flames, this game is nothing more than a little experience for the younger players against one of the best teams in the NHL. Meanwhile in Chicago, Patrick Kane continues his season-long hot streak as he has put up 7 points in the last four games. It's a possibility though that the Hawks may rest some veterans or keep their ice time low, as they want to be fresh for the first round of the playoffs.
Prediction: 3-1 Hawks

Colorado Avalanche @ Phoenix Coyotes (10:00pm ET): This will be a game of little consequence for either team. The Coyotes put up a valiant effort, but were eliminated earlier this week and have nothing to play for other than pride. The Avs are destined to finish last in the West, and have a good shot at the first overall pick in this year's entry draft, which is the only positive thing that can be said about their season. With both teams having two games left, they're just going through the motions at this point, similar to me when I have to write about this game.
Prediction: 3-2 Yotes

Overall, not many big games tonight, but the Edmonton/Minnesota match-up is certainly one to keep an eye on. Thanks for reading everybody, please comment and share if you like the content here at WAAP.

I'm going to go a bit oldschool for tonight's gif, Martin Brodeur using some WWE moves to defend his crease:
