Tonight's Big Matchups 04/21
There's one very early game in the NHL today, the Bruins taking on the Panthers. Luckily that game doesn't have major playoff implications for either team. There are a total of 8 games on the schedule tonight in the NHL, here's a look at the 4 most crucial:
New Jersey Devils @ New York Rangers (3:00pm ET): There's no love lost between these two rivals. After a lengthy losing streak, star winger Ilya Kovalchuk returned to the Devils lineup, and they've won two in a row. For the Rangers, they're fighting for their playoff lives and also sport a two game winning streak. The difference? In those two games, the Rangers put up 14 goals. Prediction: 5-3 Rangers.
Calgary Flames @ Minnesota Wild (6:00pm ET): The Wild aren't quite in the clear yet. Despite leading the division earlier this year, they have only 3 wins in their last 10 and have fallen all the way down to 7th in the West, just 3 points up on Detroit. The Flames meanwhile have continued to show heart, despite being eliminated from the playoffs for a 4th straight season. Prediction: 3-2 Wild.
Columbus Blue Jackets @ San Jose Sharks (8:00pm ET): With the Wings only picking up one point last night, the Jackets continue to hold on to the final playoff spot in the West. However, they may have to win out their remaining 3 games to have any chance. They'll face a very good Sharks team tonight who has won 4 in a row and only has one regulation loss this season in the Shark Tank. Prediction: 3-1 Sharks.
Dallas Stars @ Los Angeles Kings (9:00pm ET): With the attention mostly on the fight between Detroit and Columbus for the last playoff spot, the Stars are quietly only 2 points back and could jump ahead of both tonight with a win. The Kings have had a bit of trouble scoring lately, but have points in 4 straight games and will be buoyed by the fact they clinched a playoff berth last night. Prediction: 3-2 Stars.
Thanks for reading! As always, feel free to comment with your predictions, and share if you like the content here at WAAP. I'll be back later tonight with your evening reading, but until then here's a gif to tide you over: Pavel Datsyuk with a little magic against the Sharks:
