Tonight's Playoff Match-ups 03/05

Via: dailyrepublic.com

New York Islanders @ Pittsburgh Penguins (7:00pm ET)
TV: TSN, NBCSN, MSG
Series: 1-0 Penguins
The Islanders are looking to rebound after a simply horrible 5-0 loss in game one. They'll have to put in a better effort tonight against a Penguins team that is on top of it's game, even without Sidney Crosby. Though a timetable is not yet known for Crosby, it does appear that defensemen Brooks Orpik may be very close to returning. James Neal, who was injured in game one, didn't skate at Penguins practice and seems unlikely to play tonight. All eyes will be on Islanders superstar John Tavares to rebound tonight, after not even registering a shot on goal in game one. Evgeni Nabokov will get the start again against Marc-Andre Fleury, who picked up the shutout last game with 26 saves. Prediction: 4-2 Pens.
UPDATE! It's since been announced that Crosby will be back in the lineup for game two...much to the chagrin of Islander fans. Remember to update your playoff pools accordingly.

Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens (7:00pm ET)
TV: CBC, RDS, CNBC
Series: 1-0 Senators
These two teams are right back at it after meeting last night. It's probably not a good thing either, considering the amount of emotion in game one that may spill over and provide some bad blood tonight. Both coaches are going to need to calm their guys down and play within their system if they want to win, instead of running around and trying to hit guys, which may happen. The Sens, despite the win, need to improve defensively. Craig Anderson can't be facing 50 shots every game, no matter how amazing he is. Conversely, Montreal will need a better performance from Carey Price, who let the game slip away in the third period last night. Obviously no Eller for the Habs tonight, but Pacioretty and Gionta will also miss the game.
Prediction: 3-2 Habs (OT).

Minnesota Wild @ Chicago Blackhawks (9:30pm ET)
TV: CBC, NBCSN, FoxSports-N, CSN-CH
Series: 1-0 Hawks
The Wild have had lots of time to think about what went right for them in game one on Tuesday, and will need to bring at least that same effort again if they are to have a chance tonight. The Wild were strong defensively and gave the Hawks more of a challenge then they expected. Lots of injury news to report, as Minnesota's Jason Pomminville will be out while Clayton Stoner and Nicklas Backstrom, both injured on Tuesday, are questionable to play. Chicago will be without Dave Bolland and Ray Emery again. Corey Crawford naturally gets the start and will face Josh Harding. Both were outstanding in game one.
Prediction: 4-2 Hawks.

San Jose Sharks @ Vancouver Canucks (10:00pm ET)
TV: TSN, CNBC, CSN-CA, RDS
Series: 1-0 Sharks
Despite the loss, the Canucks feel good about their game and proved to themselves they can hang with the speed and size of the Sharks. Ryan Kesler played sick in game one and a better performance is expected out of him tonight, but for the Canucks to have any real chance the Sedin twins need to get their offense going. The same can be said of Sharks captain Joe Thronton, who was held pointless in game one. Roberto Luongo will get the start for Vancouver, as Cory Schneider still seems to be struggling with some sort of mysterious ailment. Antti Niemi will be between the pipes again for San Jose after a great outing in game one. Prediction: 3-2 Nucks (OT).
