- Patrice Bergeron was the hero last night, scoring the winner in double overtime as the Bruins pull into a 3-0 series lead over the Penguins. Tuukka Rask was outstanding, making 53 saves and only allowing one goal against to preserve the victory. Boston can finish off the sweep with a victory on home ice Friday, and advance to their second Stanley Cup final appearance in three years.
- Tough break, literally, for the Bruins, as forward Gregory Campbell left the game after blocking a shot off the stick of Evgeni Malkin. It was revealed after the game that Campbell has a broken leg and will be done for the season. That's a tough loss for Boston, as Campbell is an excellent penalty killer, and the fourth line with him, Daniel Paille and Shawn Thronton is one of the best in the league.
- The Penguins played their best game of the series, but it wasn't enough to get past the brilliant play of Rask. Though Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin still haven't found the scoresheet, Crosby won the faceoff that led to Pittsburgh's only goal, and Malkin had a game high 10 shots. Whether they can translate that into more goals and actually get back into the series remains to be seen.
- Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith was given a one game suspension for a slash to the face of Kings forward Jeff Carter on Tuesday night. On the play, Keith was retaliating to a slash on the hand he had received from Carter just moments before. The NHL doesn't take kindly to retaliation in the form of slashing to the face. Carter ended up with more than twenty stitches, and damage to his teeth. Keith claims he had no intention to hit him there, but intent or not, he'll be sitting for the pivotal game four tonight.
- The Dallas Stars announced that they will be retiring Mike Modano's famous number 9 at a ceremony next March. Modano is considered by many to be one of the best American forwards to ever play the game. He sits 23rd on the all-time scoring list and also won the Cup with Dallas in 1999. Fittingly, the ceremony will take place before a game against Minnesota, where Modano's career began.
- And finally, a minor signing to note, as the Colorado Avalanche have inked enforcer Patrick Bordeleau to a three year contract. The 27 year old Bordeleau let the team in hits last year, finished second in penalty minutes and added 5 points in 46 games.
Thanks for reading everybody! Please comment and share if you like the content here at WAAP. I'll be back later this evening with a preview of the Kings/Hawks game four match-up. In lieu of a gif, I thought I'd show you the play from last night where Campbell's leg was broken. The effort of that guy to stay out there and keep defending when he's obviously in great pain is inspiring. What a warrior.
