Morning Snapshots 16/05

  •  The Wings had a great road period in the first last night, outshooting the Hawks and entering the second tied 1-1. From then on, it was all Chicago, as they outshot Detroit 36-14 the rest of the way and added three goals for a 4-1 victory in game one. Patrick Sharp got a goal and two assists, and though Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane still have not scored this post-season, they each picked up an assist last night. Interesting side note, last night's game was the 800th all time meeting between the Hawks and Wings. Game two goes Saturday.
  • The NHL has officially announced the two outdoor games to be held at Yankee Stadium in New York next season. On January 26th the Rangers face the Devils, while the Islanders will be the Ranger's opponents on January 29th. Oddly, the Rangers will be considered the visiting team in both games.
  • Sharks winger Raffi Torres will have an in-person hearing at the NHL offices in New York today, to answer for his high hit on King's forward Jarett Stoll in game one of the Sharks/Kings series. It's not good news for Torres, who has a lengthy suspension history, as an in-person hearing allows the NHL to suspend for five or more games.
  • And finally, the quarter-final round of the IIHF World Championships goes today. Russia already got stomped 8-3 by the USA in the first match-up, as the Americans move on to the semis. They will play the winner of Switzerland vs. Czech Republic (2:45pm Stockholm time) today. The other match-ups are: Finland vs. Slovakia (6:30pm Helsinki time) and Canada vs. Sweden (8:15pm Stockholm time).
  • That's all for now everybody, thanks for reading. Please comment and share if you like the content here at WAAP, and don't forget to check out our header image contest at the tab up top. The Hawks won last night, and deserved it to be sure, but look how close the Wings were to getting back into it:
